Short answer: MCA Selector is a legitimate, open-source tool — but “safe” depends far more on where you download it from than on the tool itself. Any page that answers this question with an unqualified “100% safe, virus-free” is marketing, not information. This page gives you the verifiable version instead: what you can check, what…
If you have ever opened a Minecraft world folder, you have seen files ending in .mca — names like r.0.0.mca inside a folder called region. Those files are where a Java Edition world actually keeps its terrain. This page explains what an .mca file is, how the files in a world folder fit together, and…
There is no official online version of MCA Selector, and no official mobile app. MCA Selector is a desktop program for Windows, macOS and Linux, distributed only as downloadable files from the project’s GitHub repository. Anything else using its name — a website that offers to “edit your world in the browser”, an Android APK,…

It cannot open, edit or convert Bedrock worlds, and that is a deliberate position by the developer, not a missing feature that is on its way. Why Bedrock worlds do not work Java Edition stores world terrain in Anvil region files — the .mca…
You only need this guide if you run MCA Selector from the universal .jar. The jar is a Java application with a JavaFX interface, and the official installation guide is specific about what it needs: a 64-bit JRE 21 or newer, with JavaFX either pre-packed or installed separately. Most “MCA Selector won’t start” problems are…
Since version 2.8, MCA Selector ships native Linux packages: a .deb for Debian/Ubuntu-based systems and an .rpm for Fedora/RHEL-based systems, each in x64 and aarch64 builds. This guide covers installing 2.9 from those packages, plus the universal jar fallback. Step 1: Pick the package for your system and CPU Run uname -m in a terminal….
MCA Selector 2.9 ships as a native macOS disk image — since version 2.8 there are two .dmg files, one for Apple Silicon Macs and one for Intel Macs. Picking the right one is the only real decision in the install; everything after that is a standard macOS app install. Step 1: Check which chip…
